The engine was hand built by one of the previous owners. When I made contact with one of the owners he explained the car used to have a 289 chevrolet engine but he replaced it with a 350 Chevy. From there the engine was rebuilt and added onto. Here is what the engine has currently:
Bored to a 355 @ 375hp
Eagle Rotating Assembly witha steel billet crank
Competition Cam, stainless valve train, precision ground with hardened seats
Rhoads lifters and forged aluminum pistons
2.02 Fuelie heads with Edelbrock Air Gap intake and 750 carb
HEI Igniton
700 R4 transmission
Strange driveshaft
Chevy S-10 8.5 Heavy Duty rearend with 3:73 gears
Heidst Mustang II front end with QA 1 coilovers
Power Steering
Boxed and reconditioned stock frame
The car starts and drive very well, but we found some small issues that need attention. The engine compartment was cleaned and polished up, wiring was rerouted and covered/secured, some lines were wrapped for heat protection, the coilovers were replaced due to chrome flaking, bushings being cracked and the one shock was leaking. Chrome rear shocks were added.
The exhaust system was torn out since it was done all wrong. It sounded good, but the exhaust pipes were routed under out under the running boards. We found the exhaust was also hung with rubber bungy cords wrapped in heat protective wraping. Why this worked we dont know. Our friend Kenny Dykes, who use to own one of the bigger muffler shops in Santa Rosa, replaced the exhaust system and installed Magnaflow mufflers. Kenny is retired now and only works on his friends and own cars from home. See the video here
One nagging thing was that the gauges didnt work properly. We found the temperature sender was improperly placed on the intake and was the wrong type for the gauge to read correctly. We got this properly sorted out and relocated the temperature sender. The other issue we had with the gauges was the fuel level does not read correctly. Although the guages look nice, they are are an aftermarket type, and the company who made them are no longer in business. We are intending to replace them in the future, but for now they will do.
Some things we are planning on in the future: Replace the oil pan since the drain plug has a poor seal, new steering linkage since the current one has a worn u-joint, replace the plug wires, new alternator to replace the worn chrome one, replace air cleaner and valve covers to a more traditional fin style, replace the rear u-joint, replace the gauges, drain the rear end and replace the differential cover with a chrome one .
